  1. you can have your doctor give you an amniocenteses(a needle is used to extract fluid from your sac around the baby to check for problems, it goes thru your belly) but I'm not even sure if that picks up all chromosome defects i think it mainly tells if baby will be down syndrome or not also ultrasounds can help see if limbs and the baby's form is growning normally just pray your baby is healthy either way its still gone be yours and you gotta except it good luck to you

  2. your doctor would have told you by now if there was any abnormalities or possible disabilitys surely....

they can tell these things from scans etc....

theres a test you can get aswell where they test the amniotic fluid....the name of it has escaped me though....

    im sure babys fine

    xx

  3. Amniotic fluid is draw from the sac, through a needle in the naval, then tested.

Why this is done, to find out the mental abilities of the newborn but, what would you do, abort the baby ? or go on with the delivery ?

  4. Ask for a scan or some tests just to make sure your child does not have any disabilities. But your doctor should have told so just go and see your doctor for sure.

  5. Go to the doctor he could better tell you rather than asking questions here on Yahoo! Its my request please dont collapse your brain here so many muggers lol :)

  6. your scans would have picked up physical disabilities, but i don't think anything can tell you about mental disability, but you are normal to worry everyone does,, you will have a fine healthy baby, it's usually something in the family that puts you at risk, such as downs in the family of you or your husband

  7. There is no definitive test to rule out all form of physical and intellectual disability. The test which you can have tend to rule out genetic conditions such as downs syndrome and spina bfida. Ultrasounds can detect so physical abnormalities such as dwarfism but many conditions such as cerabal palsy and intellactaul disabilties can not be detected prior to birth and often not until a child is nearing there 1st birthday.

  8. If you've had regular prenatal care including ultrasounds and bloodwork (AFP), your practitioner would probably already be able to tell if the baby had some kind of congenital problem.

That being said...does it really matter?  The baby is still your child and you will love him or her the same no matter what...or at least I'd hope so.

  9. You wont know for sure until after it's born, and even then you'll be worrying about them reaching their developmental milestones.  They can only pick up so much information from ultrasounds and pre-natal tests.  My daughter was born with an intellectual disability - no amount of ultrasounds and pre-natal tests would have picked it up.  We only found out for sure following the most detailed of genetic analysis when she was three.  You just deal with whatever you're given and keep your fingers crossed.  Good luck.

  10. you will not know until the baby is born, every women worries about this when there pregnant but if your pregnancy is ok and the scans are fine then the chances are very  very low just be exited bout the new arrival and put that out your mind

  11. cant know for sure until bubba is born.

even ultrasounds cant pick up everything. after bubs is born they will get physical tests and blood test for any genetic problems. im sure you baby will be fine, try  to relax,

there is nothing you can do

  12. its hard to tell you can try ultrasound or asking blood test to check the chromosom but chromosom test only can check for down syndrome only i think. there is so many disability type not just down syndrome eg celebral palsy etc. but as parent i'm sure you loves your baby as much even she/he have disability or not. there is lots of support out there for people with disability and their family. I working voluntary as teacher aids at special schoo and my daugter have learning difficulties and she doing great now.

  13. with all the test and ultrasounds you have had already you doctor would have seen and told you if anything is wrong with your baby , if he has then dont worry ... your baby is healthy

  14. You would know why now. They look for certain things on the scans, for example 2 folds in the neck indicates downs syndrome, and they can do a downs test with the amniotic fluid.

But obviously things like cerebral palsy are from birth.

However i agree with the person below asking if it matters, you can't ever guarantee your child will be uh 'normal' i was 'normal' until 12, I'm now 16 and have been in a wheelchair for four years because of a physical disabilty which just happened one day and got worse and worse.

Any one can have an accident which leaves them with mental/physical disabilities aswell.. You can't guarantee anything.. I would hope it doesn't matter to you too much if the child does have any disabilities.

  15. Most expecting mum's have these same feelings, it's perfectly normal, we all want a healthy baby. The truth is though, apart from what the early tests can pick up, there is no real way of knowing, and as with everything in life, we can not predict what life will throw our way. Enjoy your pregnancy for the journey it is and love your baby whatever may come. You will have your baby soon and all your worries will seem a life time ago. all the best :)
