THe layers are already 20 weeks of age and the lighting period was extended to 20 hours (thats natural and supplement light). What will be the effects on production and quality of the eggs produced?

  1. Increased light can increase egg production, but it will not effect the quality of the eggs. This site will show you the different periods of light and darkness and the effect on the production of eggs.

  2. Light does not affect quality but does affect quantity.  A proper amount of light means the hens will be laying at their optimal level, depending on the hen.  However, it is not healthy for a hen to have too much light...maximum number of hours I've see is 18, but most say 16 hours max.

Egg quality is affected by the hens diet.  Higher quality diet (natural, no chemicals, fresh greens, and animal protein) means better eggs.

  3. not sure on quality.... however I have read that you are shortening the life of your hens by this practice....

    something to consider
