If India is not dependent on China then India doesnt have to bother about good or bad relations with China.  India can progress on her own by concentrating on economic growth and social development.  India has better literacy rate, better language skills (more people in India speak English - a universal language - than in China), innovation (unlike China that relies on imitation) etc... The high value steel that Indian companies produce have a huge market in the world that China can never ever dream of beating!

Well India is a great nation and does not need others for its own prosperity. Having said that, I shall point out that its imperative for any country to have friendly neighbours for peace to prevail in the region. And peace is the main catalyst for the industries and economical development. So its not the question that ´how can India prosper with hostile relations with china´ But it should be ´why India should be friendly with its neighbors ´. Which I think can be answered with fair ease.

You need not have to have good relations with any country to prosper. Russia was not having any friends to start with and it flourished for about 50 years. Same is the case with china. So even though it is better to have good neighbourly relations with China it need not be a reason for India's prosperity.

Indian prosperity depends on the manufacturing, business acumen, agricultural production and the sincerity and discipline of its people.If it is good then it can prosper.
