(I was hoping some else would have asked this)

I'm taking the ASVAB tomorroww for the Marines. I'm confident I'll pass I've been studying by butt off. Well my dad told me if I made it in they wouldn't be able to attend my Graduation fromm boot camp. We live in California and Parris Island is in South Carolina. He say's transportation would be the problem. I really would like them to be there. How would I solve this problem. My family is low in the cash department. Which is cheaper to travel Plane , train or bus?

  1. With luck, you'll go to boot camp in San Diego. Most people on the west coast do.

  2. With gas as expensive as it is, it's expensive anyway you go.  Many, many people graduate without thier parents or loved ones being there.  Not everyone has teh cash to spend.  Many times, there is a company that comes out and videos the graduation and then you buy the video from them.  At least they do for the AF.  Been there, bought the video :0)  I'm sorry to say but this won't be the last time mommy and daddy won't make an important event in your life.

    Congratulations and Good Luck!

  3. Yeah but all females go to Parris Island, so she will be at Parris Island, not San Diego...

Been there, done that. My mom and brother had to pay to fly all the way from Washington state to Parris Island to see me graduate. My dad is a long-haul trucker so luckily he could just drive. Don't forget you also have to buy your own way home. The military only pays for your way there. It sucks, but that's just the way it is.
