  1. its not its life span that is a problem - it is the waste caused by nuclear energy that is the problem. Being highly toxic to all living things, long lasting and dangerous in the wrong hands..

Fusion is the other alternative but is not yet achieveable (we don't have lasers hot enough to reach the temperatures required), however, it is a possible future alternative..

  2. It wont run out.

  3. A Japanese researcher has tested a technique for removal of dissolved uranium from ocean water using something like a special purpose "diaper" made out of special materials that absorb the uranium ions.  His figures say there is already a 5 billion year supply of uranium in the worlds oceans at the current global energy consumption rates, with more on the way.   Uranium leaches out of rock formations into surface water and streams and since it originates within the earths core and mantle unlike fossil fuel, which is confined to the planets crust, its essentially an unlimited supply.

And that doesn't even include thorium.

  4. Radioactive isotopes are finite but there is a much more plenty supply of them than fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas. This is using nuclear fission (breaking up the elements to create energy) and it creates radioactive waste.

At the moment people are researching nuclear fusion which combines elements like hydrogen to create energy (the sun does this.) Once we have found out how to do this efficiently we will be able to take energy from things like water. This wouldn't create nuclear waste and would hopefully last forever!
