have never actually been arrested for possession or for smoking marijuana, but I have been in trouble for it. When I was 17 I was living on a military base overseas and received probation when an NCIS investigation uncovered that I had smoked with some other kids 3 months prior to being questioned. All I received was probation. Then when I was 23, and in college, I was in an on-campus apartment, and was caught by the university police with a "usable amount" of marijuana and paraphernalia, I was suspended from the university but was reinstated within a week under the condition that I make use of the university counseling services. Will these incidents prevent me from becoming an officer in the Air Force?

  1. I imagine you being caught smoking by NCIS will show up during a background investigation. If you got probabtion, you probably don't qualify. If you say you have just experimented, you should be ok. Tell your recruiter the truth. He or she will be able to give you the low-down.

  2. AFI 48-123 Volume II Attachment 3 para A3.22.15.  Current or history of alcohol dependence (303), drug dependence (304), alcohol abuse

(305), or other drug abuse (305.2 thru 305.9) is disqualifying.

If you were placed on probation then there must have been some type of criminal proceeding.  You can't be placed on probation without having been found guilty of something.

Your history of drug use would be disqualifying as an officer in the US Air Force.

  3. From what i have seen while in the service you should blend right in with them air force boys, most offenses like yours can be waivered but some major felons will not be so  lucky? but in times of war the military has away of over looking alot of our past. so pass the pee test and blood test and at times they will even cut your hair and test this?? good luck!!

  4. If past marijuana use can keep you from being an officer in the Air Force then why is it Obama is not having any problems running for President. He has admitted to both marijuana and coacaine use.

  5. Without any criminal charges there really isn't much that can be done against you. Unless of course you confess to using drugs, then that can change everything for you. What really becomes your problem is can you pass a drug test?

  6. I'd say it doesn't look good for you man. They don't like pot heads to be officers.

  7. Use of Marijuana will definitely ruin your chances if you don't answer previous drug use questions honestly. The reason the questions are asked is to prevent a person from getting a clearance that has a background that could be used to coerce them. The military is not going to worry about non chronic marijuana use. Tell them you experimented a few times and nothing more. You know what they want to hear, and they know what they want to hear.
