Well, solar has 2 likely futures for cars. Both require increased efficiency.

1) solar plastic becomes much more economic, and it is placed on the roof of cars to charge during the day. and on the roofs of houses, stored in a battery, and then transfered to the car at night.

2) solar collectors are places just about everywhere, and a decentralized grid of constant power is everywhere, and electricity goes to being used to make hydrogen via electrolysis, and then we put the hydrogen into our cars. less efficient, but more convenient. gas pumps become a convenience, and not a necessity, as the ones we mainly use will be in our garages, the stations will likely be used for on highways, or in remote areas. simple as that.

or it will be a combination of the two.
