Question:

How will the Cubs collapse?

A regular season collapse seems unlikely, even for them. They are practically guaranteed at least a wild card.

1st round against the Dodgers with Manny Ramirez and improved pitching will likely be their downfall.

If not Pedro and Santana will take care of them in NY.

But, is it really possible they could even make their spectacular collapse on the grandest stage of all? In the World Series?

I see them losing to the Red Sox in 7, possibly a sweep.

How do you think the Cubs will collapse this year?

  1. Who's to say they will collapse though?

I'm not saying they will win it all, but just because they've faltered in years past doesn't mean the 2008 Cubs will.

  2. Look, the Cubs are doing really good this year.  I say the World Series will be against the Angels and Cubs.

  3. I think they'll collapse on a beach somewhere, two weeks after winning the World Series by defeating the Rays.

  4. It's not going to happen....... this is the mother of all next years - I BELIEVE

  5. First of all, playing into WS is not collapse of any kind.

Secondly, in this regular season. They will not collapse because they have the best rotation in the NL. Their lineup is as good as it gets as well.

If you really want a story, two names can stop them to get into the WS. CC Sabthia and Ben Sheet.

If they are going to lose the WS, one name stops them. Josh Beckett.

  6. Seriously, PEDRO is gonna beat us? The guy faced Atlanta and they scored 4 runs on him. I wonder what the BEST offense in the National League will do to him. Sure Johan might win a game but thats just it, ONE (1) GAME.

This is one of the dumbest questions out there. There is not one team in the national league that has swept us this year (Only 2 sweeps the whole season. Both came in interleague play vs the Rays and White Sox)

So seriously, the Mets and Dodgers will be our demise?

  7. I don't think they'll collapse in the regular season even a little, but they were a good team last year, but got swept by the Diamondbacks, so you never know for them in the playoffs!

  8. after the phillies sweep them in the nlcs

  9. They wont collapse

  10. They will probably collapse in WS like your Patriots did in the Super Bowl but it will be to the Rays or Angels, not the Red Sox

  11. Wishfull thinking!! I see them taking the the whole thing this yr,I belive it will be a Cubs Rays WS And i belive the Cubbies will win the WS,Put your claws back in and GET OVER IT!!!! GOD I HATE HATERS!!!

  12. You don't know what you think!  First you say they will win their division, then state wild card, next they lose to LA, no not LA but NY. No wait they will play the Red Sox in the World Series. But they will lose the series in 7, no wait, now it is losing in four.

Mary, Make a decision and state your point. But then if you cover all your bases, you can say "I told you so".

  13. I predict one of the following will happen.

They will collapse in the regular season.

They will lose in the divisional playoffs.

They will lose in the NLCS.

They will lose the World Series in 4, 5, 6 or 7 games.

They will win the World Series in 4, 5, 6, 7 games.

narrows it down about as well as you just did.

And Brandon - most Cardinals fans are smart enough to know a couple of things. the idea that you will win the wild card is a possibility, but the Cubs facing the Brewers or the Cardinals in the first round of playoffs can not happen. Two teams from the same division do not ever play in the first round. If the Cards win the wild card and the Cubs win the NL Central, they would not be allowed to play each other in the first round.

I have to wonder if all these folks who are "guaranteeing" a Cubs collapse said the same thing about the Red Sox or the White Sox previously.

  14. They will lose in the 1st round against the cardinals or the brewers...and if that doesnt happen they will lose to the phillies or the mets in the next round...Dont forget about the cardinals though..no one seems to care that they have the most injuries in baseball and there still in playoff contention...and we just got back two of our best pitchers, adam wainwright and chris carpenter-2005 cy young winner...cardinals are the 2008 WS champs in my eyes

  15. All of your scenarios are legitimate baseball possibilities. So it won't be any of those. Either the Cubs are going to win the World Series, or something unbelievably flukey will happen to them to ruin the dream (think Bartman, Leon Durham, the billy goat, etc.).

  16. lmao at the guy who says cubs have the best rotation, what a joke.  Cubs do have a solid team, and i really dont expect them to get through the playoffs.  But seriously.... the mets in the nlcs?

  17. I'm guessing it will be injuries;
