It'll bring alot of publicity to London, along with alot of tourism-- it depends on what your views of that are, through it will boost your economy. Mostly though, it's just how prideful it'll make all londoners feel, knowing that such an exciting event as the olympics is to take place in their home.

4 years is a long time away. With the way things are going now - Queen Mum all politically correct and all, doesn't get it. She probably won't be in charge by then. Dead or ousted. Move over. The Muslims have moved in. And they aren't going away any time soon.  Next stop. The US.

The eyes of the WHOLE world will be on London for two weeks.  Try to book a hotel room during the olympics - need i say more.

The city itself will undergo massive regeneration and major clean up for the whole of the world to see, which must be the best reason.

Tourism can boost economy which could potentially benefit business owners, Olympic host in London also help to exhibit English culture, newly constructed arenas and building structures may be used for public use after the Olympics, raise the level of pride and patriotism and peace, introduce new or previous sports and raise the level of sports activities locally, city undergoes "clean-up" hygienically, security level enhanced for additional protection, gains global support politically and raises the Olympics spirit.

The drawback is you have to pay for all those infrastructure changes and any new buildings you erect. And the advertising dollars. So one has to hope the tourist dollars can cover the tab. If not the taxpayers foot the bill.

Considering about 25% of Londoners are Aussie ex-pats, hosting the games there for us should haul in 20 gold for Australia next time!

You will find a lot of things will be 'polished' up and renovated, like they did for Sydney and Beijing. Transport may be improved. London should have a tram system...in this day and age with choking cars cities like London need an Olympics to revitalise things a little bit....just don't lose the old world charm or the tourists wont come.
