Question:

How will the inclusion of two new interstate teams affect the struggling Victorian teams in the AFL?

Do you think that the number of draft picks being offered to newcomers is fair? What about the salary cap?

Do you think that somebody working at AFL house might be hoping that the struggling Vic teams will fold or be left with no option than to merge or relocate?

Do you think that this is all set up to destroy what is left of the original VFL?

Maybe you think that more clubs being part of the AFL will generate more funds for the existing teams.

I would love to read your views!

  1. I think that adding another two teams is a horrible idea! I support the Hawks and have heard about the new teams trying to get Buddy! Would hate to see the teams as they are get split up...

Also, the final series would be confusing...would they have nine teams or stay with the eight? I don't know, I think that the AFL should be left as it is, 16 teams, top eight - everything works.

  2. Yep. Very fair.

The introduction of two new AFL teams into states other than Victoria can do nothing but good. It should eventually cause a couple of the Melbourne based teams to fold. There are too many teams in Melbourne at the moment. Just look how they are performing lately.

  3. It will do them good.

They will either have to amalgamate with one of the new teams or fold. They are becoming a drain on the competition.

  4. the Gold Coast team might also take away Kurt Tippet, a new player into the crows originally from there, who has shown soo much potential.... not fair.... but besides that, it shouldnt be too bad

it is the AFL now, not the VFL. this'll make it a little bit more fair

  5. Another Sydney team will not harm vic clubs..Most Sydney people will follow the original team and little impact will be made in vic

  6. draft picks.

    they get priority picks,

and your favourite team may lose a good player (e.g. riewolt)

  7. good question

    1. yeh, i think its fair. if we cast our mind back to the brisbane bears. everyone gave them their c**p players and they were a c**p team. the afl would not want a repeat. for a new team to be competitive, they need concessions such as these.

    2. yes. especially andrew demetriou and especially north melbourne

    3. no

    4. no

  8. Hopefully it will be the final nail in their pathetic coffins. I am so sick of hearing about 'struggling' VFL clubs. The actual VFL is doing just as well as WAFL and SAFL.

Teams like North Melbourne will get a nasty financial shock when the AFL withdraws it payments of $400,000 to play a game in Queensland or Canberra.

So Vic clubs want the old VFL to be restored to its former glory and they want to keep Melbourne as the permanent home of AFL footy and they want to be paid to play interstate and they want to pick off all the best players from WAFL and SAFL for themselves? I don't think so.

  9. We are in a transitional stage in AFL history between the old state comps and a truly national comp. In decades to come the history books will talk about the 20 year period when AFL had 10 Vic teams and our grand kiddies will say "Wow, imagine that, that's weird". The melbourne teams will gradually disappear and you will be left with Geelong and maybe two from Melbourne.

I wonder which ones they will be????
