  1. Certainly it should , more so when we have enough of experience now in CAL & DELHI.

Difficult to generalise such answears to all cities like Mumbai & Chennai when they are so close to the sea & if water level is not deep enough, one needs to study technically rather than making it a popular demand.

  2. Yes

  3. the metro rail has been a big success in delhi and has defenitely reduced the traffic congestion. The MRTS (Mass rapid transport system) at chennai which now connects only few points has defenitely reduced the traffic congestion to some Major IT parks on the way... But MRTS in not a major success as I see some of trains run near to empty during the off peak hours and on holidays

I am quite sure and confidant that it would help in reducing traffic congestion, but would need also the support of public in understanding the need of public transport thereby reducing pollution levels and traffic congestion. Public transportation is big means of transporting people in Western countries, but not so popular in India. This would need lot of mental preparedness from the public also

  4. that is some thing to be seen but one thing is for sure.. it will defenitely help the gowda clan!

  5. If any one is expecting the car driving people to give-up their cars, you are dreaming.

Studies show that 90 % of the metro riders are people who were using public transportation before.

It WILL definitely improve traffic both in Bangalore and in other cities.

  6. There is definitely a need to try something. Best Luck - Prof. Mehta

  7. Generating metros rail and other things will not save our metros, they are becoming suffocating. This may leads to many psychological problems to the residents of metros which may lead to intolerance, violence etc. Basically, British developed the cities like Bombay, Madras for trade purpose to explore sea route and we make them h**l by pouring from all the ways. After independence, we built only one city and that is Chandigarh. In search of job, people came to these cities and now they are at the verge of collapse from all the points which require for better living. Slowly, other metro keeps on filling and they are also likely to collapse. Our major problem is that we fail to anticipate and forget to plan accordingly. It is high time, we should decentralize the source of employment. We have to utilize nonagricultural land which is plenty in our country. In today’s world of internet, there is no problem of connectivity. Most of the industries want all the perks and facilities form the government but what they give in return to the society, nothing, not even a house to their employees. It should be made compulsory for the industry or any other government offices to make arrangements for housing, schooling, and medical facilities for the employees before issuing permission to function. It is not necessary that all the government offices should be only at district place, it may be anywhere in the district. There is high time we have to relocate the government offices to the village areas. Likewise, in village some side jobs will be generated.

  8. Metro is a best underground transport system which will help us to reach destination without the hassel of any traffic jam. As Bangalore is studded with heavy traffic metro is a best solution to ease traffic.

This should work in any metro cities as this will not be having the influence of surface transport.

I started my career in Calcutta and had witnessed the intial introduction of metro system there. Once I was travelling through buses or mini-buses there was no guarantee that I would be reaching office well before its start since we could reach in time only if the traffic is less but that situation completely changed after the introduction of metro rail. It will take just 7 minutes to reach Esplande from Lake Market ( south Calcutta ) where as I  reported office late even if I started 1-1/2 hours earlier than  beginning of office hour. So this could be called a remarakble transformation after the introduction of Metro.

If the difference that created in a Metro like calcutta  is so remarkable it should create a revolution in easing the traffic of any metro cities, why only Bangalore.

  9. yes,100% help in easing heavy trafic in Bangalore.it is the best option in the modern city

  10. Yes if its planned well and people take interest in it

  11. Bangalore is a growing city and I feel that the metro rail will definitely ease some of those pains most places feel when they expand.

Of course, first on the agenda, is getting people to abandon their cars and motorbikes and use the new service!

This is a great step forward. I think, not only would it work in other cities, but it would be short of criminal not to start plans for them straightaway.

  12. I dont think it is going to work in Bangalore or for that matter anywhere in India. Coming to the traffic problem in Bangalore, I dont think it is very much. It has been made to look much. Like the one we are seeing everywhere. Why should any vehicle go all around the place and covering all the roads when there are shortest routes i mean roads to reach the particular destination. I move in trafic everday for about 3 hrs from Office to Home and Back. And i have been observing this for a long time. I appreciate the wide roads here but the Traffic System is the worst. When there are so many wide roads in Bangalore why to have one-ways all the way. Every road is a widish road and it is a one-way. All the time the roads will be empty only for about half the time it will be full. Instead of having one-ways I suggest to remove all the one-ways and see whether it works or not. Make all the roads two-way so that all the roads will be properly used. Half of the time some roads are not used at all. Also, waiting at the signals for our turn is pathetic. Why should one wait for 3 minutes at every other signal. Instead if we have a time stamp of only 1 minute for every signal it makes the frustration of the people less and also reduces the waiting time of the vehicles at the signals. Every vehicle will be moving around very fast without waiting too long and getting frustrated at the signals. One more thing, do people dont have traffic sense or they cant see the traffic coming. Then in that case why cant we remove all the NO FREE LEFT TURN Boards. Keep free left turns so that the vehicles which have to go left dont have to wait and the others coming behind can move freely. I think by doing this we can reduce the traffic problem in Bangalore but definitely the METRO System will not work. How many people will travel in a metro rail. Only people who go far distances will use it. They cant replace the buses. They will definitely reduce the commuters travelling in buses but not for short distances. Also, all the way people have to walk IN to the metro station from outside the roads and they have to walk back to their destination which will take considerable amount of time. This is my opinion, just think!!

  13. The Metro Rail has a three pronged benefit:

    1. Reduce travel time between key determinant sectors, and thereby reduce congestion on those routes, and minimise the resultant pollution which spews out in all its elements.

    2. It will be professionally run, so there won't be labour-related disruptions in service.

    3. More importantly, assuming there is a high, lower and lowest segment of commuter, the lower segment which uses public transport , will migrate to the slightly costlier Metro service. These commuters will learn the finer arts of cleanliness and hygiene, as Metro stations are state-of the-art.

Likewise, the lowest segment will occasionally use the Metro and benefit from irs ambience and efficiency.

Yes, buses and trains will be less congested . Everybody will have breathing space. Auto-rickshaws and Taxis which ruled the demand side of middle and higher segment commuters will respond to the supply gap created by the Metro and become more customer-friendly.

The Metro is suitable only in Metros and not in all cities. Metro rail is useful for cross-city travel with minimised pollution and collateral social benefits.

  14. Metro rail will make travel faster and better!

  15. bangalore is very populated city so there should be a metro rail so there no heavy traffic  the metro rail work should be done very fast so there will be no problem of moving other vechile

  16. It is some what useful for metros, but it is not always good for all the cities as per the geometrical conditions

  17. As of now, no one can tell if metro rail will ease traffic in bangalore or not, but  government has taken up the project with positive hopes.

It will easy traffic on roads if they plan properly to save our time with frequents trains.

If the planning is good, metro rail will surely work for any city.

  18. more ppl will prefer to go by metro n less by bus n other public transport systems on the road

  19. I am an Transportation/Highway engineers, according to me by this time Bangalore and other Metropolis in India should have atleast two Metros, it is hightime for all the Metropolis to plan and build for fast, economical, reliable, and safest metros. These metros or Mass rapit transit systems allows the commuter to reach their destinations with least time with out vehicular traffic hassle, and more importantly it will minimize the vehicular pollution to a great extent. No doubt that Metros will surely going to be of great success in the coming years. Only thing is they should be able to attract the people.

  20. First off, it'll will try to solve Bangalore's time wasting rush hour commuter congestion problems.

Secondly, it may also bring down road accidents due to people using metro. This means better safety in travel. Also add this to less crowded parking lots of...malls, offices, etc.

This metro network must also connect important points like city train-station and airport.

Next is speed, imagine traveling from Bangalore city train station to airport in 20 mins flat!

Once a success...this model can be replicated for other cities like Hyderabad, Pune, etc.

  21. of course...metro rail is going to be of great help to the banglore people..oops Bengaluru...after the metros i guess banglore is the city where most people wanna go to...and so metros will be good solution for reducing the traffic..n the no. of accidents..but i hope this metro project be completed within a few years of it proposal ..else it will soon become a big problem.

As for the other cities..guess no city is in dire need of it...so they can wait till banglore has one.

  22. When it has done wonders in Delhi and Calcutta it will definitely be of a great help to Bangalore_a Growing Metro...i may not be wrong if i say the already crowed city . it will help to reduce traffic when it reduce the time of travel compared to road who will be ready to get their two wheelers and car out to road....second reduction in traffic will reduce motor exhaust there by pollution ...

  23. It helps in moving a larger number of people  at a time, and without associated pollution.

But on a lighter vein, when they construct the metro, they will dig roads, block roads and traffic; so when it finally becomes a reality, it would have definitely improved the traffic conditions!

  24. I think metro will do a good job in easing the traffic of this conjusted city. But it should reach to more people, with a much wider network as well as reasonable prices, for them to take advantage of this transport system. It would certainly have an advantage of being a luxuriouc means of travel at a comparitively lower rates(compared to the present Volvo buses).I`ve experienced the metro in Delhi. It`s a very good mode of transport also because of its smooth ride and air conditioned coaches. So daily commuters may opt for that owing to its comfortable ride.I,at least .will.

  25. I  have been in  b`lore for the past 6 months.i travel to office by bus and let me tel that`s an one h**l of experience i`m goin thru daily.I think the metro will be a great thing since it wll hold many nice things wit it.

But i don`t feel it`ll have a great effect in tacklin the traffic problem.Bangalore has reached a stage where the number of people usin their own mode of transport like cars and bikes have risen up sharply. The number of Cars in b`lore have quadrapuled than wen was in 2002 or 2003 and it`ll only keep on growin. The revolution of IT has brought Professionals  from all over world to B`lore and i`ts very mandatory 4r their lifestyle 2 have their own mode of transport.

V can`t go down wit our present life for the sake of 2morrow.The work done in the roads now will add only to the worse nature of present situation. The metro can be worked out but without disturbin our daily life....But by lookin at things now i can`t feel it`ll happen that way..

It`s an good altenative 2 roads in cities like chennai or kolkatta but this is not a place and probably it can`t be done easily fm d stratch as in case of b`lore..

Always "Prevention is bettr than cure"

  26. the only solution ------------------

          WAIT AND SEEE.

cannot find a better solution .

  27. Of course it will help. Why would anybody drive if they can get to the Metro nearby either walking or even driving for five minutes and then take an auto or just walk to their destination at the other end. Is it not how the whole world works? The difficulty we have is that it takes ages to change the minds of people. Anyone who gets scared of the bumper to bumper traffic will welcome the changeover to Metro.

  28. it will if it can accomodate 50 thousand plus passengers one way x 2 during the office hours... and most important if they finish the project in 3-4 years on a warfoot basis.. but from my last 3 years in bnagalore it takes time inline other cities.

one small request to all concerned please plant 15 thousand saplings as guarneteed by the metro rail chairman aginst the 4000 trees they will be cutting for this project... all the best

  29. Yes it will use full to avoid traffic in the city. When this system comes to city at least 20% of the people avoid using own vechicle,it is enough to avoid traffic in the city. And also it should be extended to some more distance.

  30. Its the best option and will defenitely work in any city

  31. Metro in Delhi is an example which should be considered before rampaging on all the 150-200 and even more years older trees to make metro path. As per statistics the metro rail in delhi has eased only 30-35% of the traffic problems. Metro rail might help in easing the traffic problems only if proper planning is done as to what is the traffic rate b/w various places??. What is the the profile of people travelling e.g Will a CEO of a company travel by metro??. Is there enough space for a station or will that just add to the congestion and unnecessary slaughter of the greenery ??.

In Delhi it did'nt prove to be a success because of the status quo attached to it and in the same context it might not work in B'lore either, but would definitely be a success in U.P, Bihar, or even Calcutta and Chennai.
