Question:

How will the weather affect the Kentucky Derby tomorrow?

Today's rain, and tomorrows forecasted storms will most likely leave the track in a sloppy condition. About half of the field has experience on a wet track, and only a handful of those have faired well in the rain. I typically handicap pretty well, but at the Breeder's Cup last October I didn't catch a singe bet because it seemed like the track condition messed with all of my picks. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

  2. Wow didnt know it was on tomorrow...What time is the Derby on at ??

  3. My guess: it will be a slower track.

Did you know that the toast, "Here's mud in your eye" originally was said from one jockey to another, and it meant, " hope that you are behind me in the race on this wet track."

  4. Well, if there is a sloppy track tomorrow, I can bet the inside horses are going to have trouble right from the bat.  I have to say that trying to figure out who is going to win a sloppy Derby is very difficult, we've gotten some pretty interesting winners that way.

As for picking a winner, have fun with that one!  I know the Breeders Cup was quite a mess, I couldn't pick any winners either!

I would say stay away from the inside horses, that is usually the worst part of the track.  Also, muddy going is harder on the horses, so those who have to make up ground (say those on the far outside) are probably going to wear out faster.  If you can find a good mudder out of the bunch, I might say pick that one.

I'm crossing my fingers for at least a decent track condition...I hate sloppy Derbys!

  5. It's definitely going to affect the big race... I would check with www.WinningPonies.com, because when you get their picks you can switch the track conditions and they are usually pretty accurate with their picks.

This is how they did in last year's derby:
