Ok i have a 1997 saturn sc2 with 130000 miles on it. This car burns about a F*****G quart every 300 miles. not good! Ok well on the valve cover there is a hose that that goes from the intake hose to the valve cover. Someone said that if i remove this hose completely from my engine than i will have no more oil problems. i doubt it but i want to hear wat someone else says. Im thinkin ima need some new piston rings. righht?? cuz there are no leaks anywhere. Does anybody know how to free up gummed up rings??

  1. That hose is for a breather on the engine if you have worn out rings and you pull off that hose you will spray oil all over under the hood if you use that much oil there is no easy fix, it is all major, don't pull off that hose will not  help

  2. yes you are in need of new rings ,and maybe a head gasket, all cause blowbye, removing hose will cause oil too blow all over !!!!!

  3. Don't listen to the moron that said to remove the hose. Sounds like you have a need for a re-manufactured engine. Ask at you city yard who they use for engine work. Good Luck!

  4. That hose sounds like the one for your PCV valve. If your rings are shot, the motor will have blow by, a lot of that oil can end up going through the PCV valve and back in to the intake. Removing that hose will only blow that mess all over the place and will do nothing to fix what is wrong with the engine. I once had a bush truck with bad blow by, I ran a se from the PCV valve down to the frame rail pointed down. I then plugged the hole that was in the air box. While this stopped the air filter from becoming oil soaked, the c**p blowing out on the ground got the best of me and I replaced the motor. I'd suggest a re manufactured engine if the car seems worth it otherwise.

  5. That hose is part of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation System. If you remove it, chances are will be very sludgy very quickly. That's a huge amount of oil. Are you getting blue clouds of smoke at startup or while driving? Are you sure it's not leaking out? You need to have a compression check done. It may or may not be the rings. It could be valve seals which although not trivial, is no where near the expense of an engine overhaul. It's easy for a mechanic to check. The seals will look all cracked and crumbly. I'd still do a compression test, or a leakdown test. Both easy to do, and they can isolate rings from valves as the problem. As I said, you should check for leaks. If the car got off to a very bad break in routine, or has not had regular service, it may ust b worn out. Ring failure and breakage in a car of that age is rare.

  6. i think the one he told you to remove is the one for the pcv valve and this isn't going to help it,there's no cure for  worn rings or bad valve guides other than to repair them, which could be the cause of what yours is doing, you can change the oil to a thicker oil like castrol 50 weight and slow it down a lot that's the cheapest way to slow it down other than repairing the engine, good luck.
