Question:

How will universities view my bad ACT Writing score?

I took the ACT again and got a 31 overall with a 34 in english, but my writing was really poor (a 6 out of 12, or 29th percentile) for a combined english/writing of 29. Do you think this could affect my chances of going to maybe Berkely or Stanford?

  1. It would depend on what type of student you present yourself as. If you tell the college you intend to major in english, then the score is bad. If you instead are going to major in science or math and have the credentials to match(AIME+, or semifinal+ in a olympiad, or strong science research and ecs), you still have a really good shot at Berkely, and a decent shot at Stanford.

  2. Yes, I think it will affect your chances very much.  If you can take it again, get extra tutoring first.
