A kiwi is a bird about the size of a domestic fowl.  It is a forest dweller and is largely nocturnal.  It has no wings that you can see (although tiny wing stubs exist).  It has solid legs and a long beak that it uses to search for insects etc.  It lays huge eggs and it the national bird of New Zealand

People who live in New Zealand are sometimes call Kiwis after the national bird.  The original inhabitants of NZ were Maori, and are Polynesian.  Most early migration was people of British extraction   The British signed a treaty with the Maori in 1840, and relations between the two groups is pretty friendly.  New Zealanders are in general easy-going and relaxed.  The country lends itself to many outdoor activities.
