How wonderful is psychiatry & psychology.

Question

I was just wondering what good these fields have done for humanity? I've only seen in movies that they dress in the white coats and talk to others trying to get to the root of a person's problems. But what about outside activities? Don't these guys do some outside activity in humanity? How is psychiatry and psychology so great and wonderful and why? Seems it's almost as great as the GODS themselves or something. I just don't understand what good they do for humanity because of the movies out there with them in it. Why does everyone like psychiatry and psychology? What is so great about them that has earned them a greatest opinion leader friend of humanity and why?

The workings of consciousness and cognitive acuity continue to be scientific mysteries which are still not completely solved.

In many cases, all we can do is make educated guesses about how and why we act and react the way we do.

We have developed scientific methodologies and experiments which can discern patterns and trends in these areas, but, still, great mysteries are yet unsolved.

And, in order to continually evolve, we need to embrace higher levels of consciousness which may eventually unite us in striving toward the goal of all inclusiveness and working toward solutions which embellish all of us, rather than just our specific culture or nation.

Psychologists will continue to play an important role in this grand pursuit.
