like peanuts, etc?

personally Im not the least bit worried, I can't think of one person in my family or my boyfriends that has an allergies to anything.

What are the chances of someone being allergic to a certain food if no one in the fam has allergies to it?

  1. I don't have kids...so I'm incredibly worried...kidding...if when I have kids they do have allergies I'll deal with it...its not like their lives are ruined if they can't eat peanuts.

  2. fee

  3. Not very high, though doctors generally do blood tests when a baby is born just to warn parents of any illnesses or allergies. We are all allergic to something, it just depends how much. My brother was allergic to something that was causing him to have horrible migraines. When he got full blood work done, it turned out that about 20 things irritated him that he didn't even know about. Don't worry.

  4. I'm not worried at all. We have no history of food allergies in our family. When I was first introducing new foods I would not even wait a few days between each one, and he never had any problems.

  5. not much, i would be more worried about deathly diseases and genetic stuff

  6. i'm pretty worried because my first child has food allergies.  he outgrew a dairy allergy and is still allergic to tree nuts.

any history of any allergic condition (asthma, seasonal allergies, eczema) is considered a family history for food allergies.  what is inherited is the tendency to be allergic, not the specific allergies.  the mom might be allergic to ragweed and the child can be allergic to soy.

if you have no history of any type of allergic condition, you probably don't have to worry, but i would still follow the recommended schedule of introducing the most allergenic foods, like nuts, peanuts, dairy, and shellfish.

  7. not at all.. no allergies in our family and if he is then we'll deal with it, but I dont want to stress about it!!  I just hope peanut butter is ok...hubby and I are both junkies for it!!

  8. I'm not in the position of expecting a child but have thought about the situatio before. It wouldn't worry me as the personality of the child is the important thing and the child being allergic to something just makes them more unique.

  9. not worried in the least.  i have never had an allergy, neither does my husband and neither of our families has food allergies.

so far my son has no allergies (and yes he has eaten things they say not to for fear of allergies such as strawberries, egg whites,  seafood etc). he is 7 months old.

the funny thing is allergies are not a common problem in less developed countries, they say it could be common in more developed countries  because of people's obsession with buying everything antibacterial and being overly hygienic (like bleaching everything they touch) and not allowing their child to exposed to germs so the immune system doesn't get a chance to work hard. it's probably true.

  10. Not sure, but you can't be worried over something you don't know. that's what sucks about allergies, you don't know ahead of time what they will or won't be allergic to. May have to find out the hard way.

  11. If you are allergic to certain foods check the packet before buying it. allergies dont always run in the family it usually skips a generation.

  12. Well, no one in the family has allergies to grapes but my twins do. Basically just feed them a little bit when feeding new foods and do it in 2-3 days at a time and then you will know what food they are allergic too. Really it is a good idea because you don't want them to grow up and eat something and have their mouths swollen shut or something.

I am not that worried but it's nice to know, especially if they are with other family memebers etc.

  13. Apparently if there isn't a history of allergies in your family then the likelihood of ur child having any is very low.  Still possible but low - also what is the point in worrying about things that could potentially never happen :)

  14. Not worried at all, I can't think of a single food allergy that runs in either my or my husband's family!

  15. It never crossed my mind while I was pregnant. Neither one of our families had any food allergies, so I never thought about it.

Unfortunately, when my daughter was 2 weeks old, she started having bloody stools. After running numerous tests, the doctors diagnosed her with a milk protein allergy. Which meant that I read every ingredient when starting a new food, since she couldn't have whey or casein. And I panicked after every food, certain that she would be allergic.....

Thankfully, she slowly grew out of her milk allergy, and I haven't run across any allergic foods. I think we're in the clear!

  16. Just observing your baby as you introduce new foods should be enough. There are rashes, welts or swellings that appear in childhood when a child is exposed to allergens. You are wise not to worry about it with no allergies in either family, your baby will very likely not have any either.

  17. i wouldn't worry you would love your baby anyway

  18. im a new mommy first baby i worrie over EVERYTHING.im suprised i sleep at night

  19. The only way to ever find out is to give it to him/her and see if they have a reaction. I personally give my kids everything to see what they like and don't like. It's the whole trail and error method. I never hold food back because they "might" be allergic to it. So far my kids are not allergic to anything and it's good cause i am so they have not come down with my stuff yet!

  20. i don't know the chances of them being allergic but i am like you. I son't have anyone in mine or my husbands family that are allergic to things like that. So i'm really not worried.

  21. I doubt that my son will have food allergies, but that doesn't stop me from checking him over every time I introduce a new food!  Only one person in either of our families has an allergy, and it is to caffeine.

I don't know what the statistics of children having an allergy that doesn't run in the family, however it is becoming more common.

  22. none of my family...r my husbands family have any allergies...and my youngest baby was allergic to baby formula, all types...i tried them all...

an allergie can develope at any time........ :)

  23. They always ask if anyone in your family is allergic to anything...so I'm sure it has something to do with it. I'm not worried at all!
