My dad says he paid child support till I was 21. My mom said he only paid the one year when I was 17. I want to find out the truth without anyone finding out. I lived in British Columbia Canada at the time.

  1. Ask the court what is the mode of payment, if it is through the bank, ask the manager and if it is to your mother, ask her.

  2. You won't be able to find out the truth without your parents cooperarion.  Unless your Dad was paying through the Courts, there will be no record except your parents bank records.

If it bothers you so much, tell your parents that it does.  Tell them you need to know the truth and ask to see their banking details showing this.  If child support was paid by cash, there are no records.

If your Dad only paid for one year, your Mom would have filed to receive all the support you would have been entitled to until your 18th birthday.  No one would throw that kind of money away.  Especially since the money was yours not hers.

  3. Seems like that would be complicated but I would start with Family Children Services in your area.

    Good Luck

  4. In my state I don't know about Canada though......The child has to write a letter of intent to continue education BEFORE there 18th birthday.  This will allow the money to continue after the birthday until school starts.  When going to school the child has to provide a letter of consent to the other parent and the school so that the parent paying the support can check up on you and make sure he is basicaly getting his money's worth on supporting you through some college.

If you did not go to college or have to do any of this I doubt he payed.  Unless he was paying off the back owed child support and the intrest that grew on it.  Since you a party to the child support case that he had to pay on alls you have to do is contact the child support office and ask them.
