  1. You can become one, but you will need a carreer to pay for it all first. Eventually if you get really good, you can go pro, then maybe depending on your sponsers, you can quit your other career.

  2. Drift Racer is rather contradictory... sort of like wanting to be an Ice Speed Dancer.  Drifting (like Ice Dancing) isn't about speed, but car control and style.  Racing (like Speed Skating) is about going fast.

So, assuming you are talking about drifting events, yes, there are some series out there aimed at drifting.  Like any driving that falls in the realm of motorsports, doing it as a career is a matter of how good you are and how proftable events can be.  As for the later, right now drifting has a fair following, but it is at best, on par with the lower level support race series.  Like those, there is a fair amount of sponsorship money, though overall this amount mostly cuts costs for people participating.  Only a few are actually making it as their only career (and those may also be working elsewhere in the motorsports industry since this alone would be fairly low pay).

  3. career no  awesome hobby yes.  go buy yourself a 240sx  or a toyota AE86 .  find a huge empty parking lot and just have fun.

  4. in the real world theres no leagal drift 'race'. drifting is more of a circus performance show piece rather than racing -

it can be a real career if you can find some one to sponcer you

  5. In Japan yes, they do have illegal drift racing and illegal drift racing in the streets of Tokyo
