Like the officers that work for the SPCA and ASPCA on Animal Planet? I've been intrested in doing so for a long time. But now that I'm almost out of Highschool I want to learn more about it. What degrees in College would I need? Or what classes to take? What type training? Also how much do they get paid? I tried researching their websites but I couldn't find much to answer my questions. Thanks to who all answers.

  1. I think the ASPCA website explains it perfectly. You need some sort of animal care experience or prior law enforcement training.

The ASPCA here in NYC are staffed mostly by retired cops or people who are vet techs or similar.

You also must satisfy the requirements to be a NYS Peace Officer and carry firearms. In short, you must be 21, have no domestic violence convictions, no felony convictions and usually no misdemeanor convictions.

They make a decent salary. 60 grand or so, similar to a NYC cop.

Everything you need to know is on their website....

The position of HLE Officer at the ASPCA is prestigious and highly sought-after. The ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Division has occasional openings for qualified candidates. All ASPCA HLE officers must reside in New York State and be eligible for certification as a New York State Peace Officer. This certification is authorized and discussed in the New York State Criminal Procedure Law Article 2, Section 2. The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services is designated to administer this certification program. If you have skills and education that you think will make you a superior candidate for the position of HLE Agent, please forward your resume to hr@aspca.org. The ASPCA values its employees and provides excellent employee benefits.

    Experience and schooling

When preparing for a career in Humane Law Enforcement, your choice of schooling is really up to you. Prior experience as a police officer, park ranger, or peace officer may help make you a more attractive candidate. Many states offer specific training for humane law enforcement. In addition, classes in criminology and animal sciences will also complement a career as an HLE officer.
