Question:

How would I consolidate my files? ?

On my external HDD, i've backed up many versions of essentially the same folder.

Does anyone have any idea what software or method could be used to search for unique files (ie ones that

appear only in one version of the stored data)?

It's my goal to consolidate the archives and eliminate repeats.

BTW, I'm running Windows XP.

Thanks!

  1. I don't know if I understood you well, but what you want to do is remove the repeated files in the different folders (same folder but different versions) and keep only unique single files.

You can use a program called Duplicate File Finder. Download it from here:

    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/dupfilefind...

You can use it for free, as it is a freeware.

Install the software and you can use it to remove duplicates and keep only one file of the same name/type/size.

    One more such freeware:

    http://www.easyduplicatefinder.com/

    Hope this helps.
