How would I contribute an article to a major magazine like LIfe?

I've published, but not with them. I'd like to become a regular freelancer, or staff writer.

Familiarize yourself with the magazines you like and send a query letter to the editor along with your published writing samples. You can also write something relevant to the magazine, send it to the editor and see if they will publish it. That's the way you can become a freelance writer. If they like it and want to publish it, then you would have to fill out a freelancer form for tax purposes in order to get your pay. Freelancers work from home and visit the company's offices when necessary.

As for becoming a staff writer, you would have to send a resume along with some writing samples to human resources at the company you would want to work for. The company would hire you and then you would work at their offices in the editorial department & report to their editorial director.
