How would I get from Dusseldorf Airport to Munster? Cheap and uncomplicated? and Safe?

So I have to get to Munster but it was really expensive. It was super cheap into Dusseldorf about 100k away. Where do I catch the buses? The Lonely planet was of zero help. It says there are buses and that's it. Not how much or where to catch them. Also, when is the earliest bus back to Dusseldor? And is it cool to sleep at the airport if I have a 7am flight on the way back?

  1. ask about "mitfhartcentrale"

  2. I can't believe anyone said there are buses between Duesseldorf and Muenster - the two are 130 km apart! There is no such thing as Greyhounds or long distance bus lines in germany, thats what trains are for.If there are indeed any such busses, please tell me.

There are trains runing between Duesseldorf and Muenster that take between 1.20 hrs and.1.50 hrs, price is between 24 and 28 €.

You can see the timetable for yourself : (link in english)

    http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.e...

    Enter "Duesseldorf Flughafen" (=Duesseldorf Airport)

and "Muenster Hbf" (Hbf = Central station).

  3. Additional information to eeliko's post: Buy an 'NRW-Ticket Single' (22 Euro) or 'NRW-Ticket' (29,50 - for up to 5 people). They are valid all day for all regional trains within Northrhine-Westphalia.

  4. The safest and most uncomplicated way would be via train.

You take the S-Bahn from Düsseldorf Airport to Duisburg. In Duisburg, you can either take a regional train or the InterCity to Münster. It takes about 120 minutes to get from Düsseldorf to Münster by train, but if you have to catch an appointment I'd allow some time for delays.

Münster Central station is located directly in the city center and right next to the main bus terminal. From there, you can easily travel within the city.

The price is 24 Euros for one way. For connections, check out the Bahn link below. You can also book tickets via the internet in advance if you have a credit card and check for connections by using the Reiseauskunft link below.

There's also the possibility to travel in a car using the Mitfahrzentrale (link below). It's possibly cheaper, but you depend on the driver of the car.

As for sleeping at the airport, I don't know. As far as I know, the airport closes over night. I'd suggest you either take a tain in the night (I think there's one that arrives at 4am and one that arrives at 6am), or you try to get a hotel or the Youth Hostel in Düsseldorf to stay there for the night.
