How would I go about affixing curtains to the bottom bunk of a bunk bed?

This is my bed:

I want to attach curtains that I can draw closed on the side not touching the wall and a curtain that cannot open on the end not touching a wall (for clarification, I'm referring to the things with rails as the ends).

This is the underside of the top bunk if that gives any further necessary information:

Where could I find suitable curtains? What would be the best way to attach them?

Thanks!

  1. Send pics of what you working on along with measurements to me and I'll get it to my Mom. That woman can sew ANYTING!!

  2. Having viewed your photo's you can either have them outside on the top bunks side base, or inside, it's up to you. I would hang them on a curtain rod with two end sockets screwed into the top bunks base, this way you can pull them closed quite easily and tie them back when open. Have a great day.

  3. If this were my project, I'd make them myself.  Unless you purchase custom fitted drapes, you're most likely going to have to at least hem them to length... so ya might as well get what you really like to begin with, hehe.

First thing to do is find a material to work with.  Your imagination is your limit.  You can find fabric at special 'fabric' or 'sewing supply' stores, a few WalMarts, some craft stores, etc.

Sew a 'sleeve', or make loops, to go over a rod, and hem the bottom to length.  (Or you can purchase a rod with 'rings and clips)

You can find curtain rods at most stores, and the mounting hardware.

You can secure the ends of the curtain with a couple of staples thru a flap of material at the end, to make them so they can only be opened from the middle.

Here is a site with some good looking rods, and finials...may be more than you want to spend but take the time to look at the mounting hardware.  Being mounted under the bedframe, all you really need are the rod and hardware, no finial.

If you want to get really handy, you could make the rod out of steel, or copper pipe.  Most hardware stores will carry this, and mounting flanges, so you could s***w them to the underside of the top bunk.
