My mother has a pint jar filled with raw uncut black australian opals. she obtained them in a divorce. She has had them for years and I have seen them myself. The stones are good size, uncut and alltogether she ahs over a pound of them. It is my understanding they are very rare and sell for a lot of money per gram. How would I go about finding a buyer for some or all of the stones? What steps should I take? It there a high demand for these stones out there? Tell me what you know aboutt his sort of thing. Thanks

  1. Ebay? or a jewelry dealer? pawn shop?

  2. ebay is easiest, but if you want the highest price maybe research it first and put a minimum payment on them.

  3. depends on the quality of the stones.  I'll buy them

  4. Start by asking your local jeweler if he buys them.  Describe the gems to him and ask him if he would buy them and if so, for how much.  If he doesn't buy them, ask him if he knows a place that does, preferably not a pawn shop.  Don't be afraid to do business with a jewelry shop.  They will let you know what it's worth, but will buy them at a slight discount because they have the ability to process and sell the jewels as that may become time consuming for you to do.

    Good Luck

  5. first look in your area for someone to appraise them. then they could tell where you could find someone who would be interested in them

  6. Ebay

  7. Talk to a jeweler
