  1. Dont' try it.  They have X-ray machines.  I was on Carnival in January & I saw an entire plastic basket full of "Confiscated goods" near the check in.

  2. Vodka - Water Bottle.

Just carry it with you in your hand.  EVERYONE has a bottle of water these days.  I've done it every single time I cruised, and 9 cruises later, still works like a charm.  :)

Don't worry about it.  Just put some in there, and *IF* for some reason they DO find it?  Oh Well....not going to ruin your trip right???

I personally think (and hope) that the cruise line is too busy trying to find drugs, explosives, guns....to care about me bringing a bottle or two of vodka, crown royal or whatever....and again, if they took it, who cares?

(But if you're a BIG drinker - put a couple bottles in your carry on - and put the rest in your checked luggage.)  :)

Just dont do what one of my friends did - she put GOLD SCHLAUGGER(sp) in a GLASS bottle, and it broke all over her clothes!  UGH!!!  Till this day, that smell makes me want to yack!

    Have fun on your cruise!!!!!!!!

  3. Don't.  It seems that everyone who has "fallen" off of a cruise ship has done this.  It may not  be coincidence.

  4. I am leaving for a Carnival cruise this sunday and i asked my aunt who has been before about the alcohol on the ship and she said she never saw anyone be ID'ed so you might as well just get the drinks on the ship. She said she didn't think there is even a "drinking age" since you will be in international waters.

    PS Have FUN!!!!! :)

  5. This same question comes up all the time and I will try to give you an upfront answer and take into consideration the other answers that have been provided.

Keep in mind that if you're reading this, so are the cruise lines. They read these kind of sites, blogs, etc. to see what people have to say about cruises and look for ways to change and improve.  So I guarantee they know about all the ways to sneak booze on board and you really don't want to risk being caught.

You can bring water and soda on board, but only in unopened bottles.  The cruise lines use the same kind of security as the airlines and you cannot bring an opened container or beverage through the screening, but you can buy and consume items after you've passed security.  Unfortun-ately, there are not many cruise ports that have places to purchase beverages or food once you pass security.

You will go through an Xray screening of anything you carry on board and your checked luggage will also be screened.  The cruise lines will confiscate anything in an opened container and hold any alcohol in your checked luggage.  If you are bringing on board something like mouthwash, shampoo, etc. in a larger than travel size bottle and it is opened, the cruise line will check it.  If you are caught bringing alcohol on board, whether you are over or under 21, the cruise line has the right to deny you boarding the ship. If you purchase alcohol in the ports and bring the bottles on board, they will mark the bottles with your room number when you board and will hold them for you and return them to you when you disembark.  (You and everything you bring on board must go thru security searches and Xray screenings, just like at the airport, any time you leave and return to the ship) If you try to "smuggle" alcohol on board at one of the port stops, the cruise ship has the right to put you off the ship at that port and you're on your own to find you're way back home.

The cruise line will issue you a "credit card" that will be used for your room key, to charge to your ship board account, and also as an ID.  The magnetic strip on the back of your card is encoded with your picture and all of the info from your passport.  They swipe your card everytime you leave and reboard the ship.  It's how they know who is on or off the ship.

When you go to a bar and order a drink on board, they'll swipe your card to charge you for your drink and at the same time check your ID . Their screen automatically tells them if you're not 21 and displays your picture, so you can't use someone else's card.  If your under 21,  and someone else purchases a drink for you, and you're caught with alcohol, you and the person that bought you the drink can be put off at the next port.

When you go to one of the club's on board, they will swipe you're card to ID you before you even walk in the door.  They will automatically know if you are under 21 and will see your picture.

Is it really worth it? You or your family is spending a lot of money to get on a cruise, and you have to ask yourself if you want to risk being thrown off the ship for a few dollars in booze.  If you can't afford to buy alcohol on board the ship, then this cruise is not in your budget.  If you're under 21 and trying to "sneak" alcohol on board - its not worth the risk.

  6. I wouldn't even try. The cruiselines have seen it all. I just got back from a 10day Caribbean cruise last month. I took a six pack of 24 oz bottles of Pepsi ( I don't like Coke) and a six pack of 20 oz water. They allow both of these. If I want a mixed drink I just order one at the bar. I save enough money on the cruise, airfare and excursions not to worry about the bar bill. Also, who wants to get stuck in your cabin trying to hide your booze. I want to be out with my friends and in the sunshine. Drinks are also cheap on shore. The new weight limits on airlines is also a reason I don't pack bottles of booze. I buy the pop and water just before boarding the ship.

  7. I've cruised twice with them and none of us on either of those trips had any problem getting our 'adult beverages' on board. Mouthwash and various other types of bottles were used (that could easily be explained as items one would take when travelling, if explanation was needed).

Both times I took some, I ended up only making one or two in-room cocktails, and buying the rest on the ship. I just prefer the frozen drinks to a coke n' sumpn and frozen cocktails are hard to make in-room. LOL!

Some cruise lines are more strict than others. I've got a Mediterranean cruse planned in the fall on Celebrity CL and I'm not going to try to smuggle booze out of the country on a plane, to take on the ship...or buy over there and try to smuggle on board. Carnival supposedly just confiscates booze if they find it, but Celebrity lets you know if they feel like it, they'll refuse to allow you to board if they find you've tried to break their rules. I'm not riskin' flyin' to Italy to get denied access to my ship.

    Enjoy your trip!

  8. You are permitted bottled water and soda pop. I think about 12 cans/bottles each and  1 bottle of wine I have seen people caught with trying to bring on vodka, whiskey and not sure they made the boat or not. Also, if you purchase alcohol the last night on the boat they usually give it to you but buying prior they hold until you depart. Have Fun!!

  9. I think they would allow a small ammount? i dont know about bottles as they have these restriction in airports not sure about cruise ships!

  10. I just packed it in with my shampoo and other toliltries

  11. Ive been on two cruises on two different lines and didn't have any problems "smuggling in the booze" I was told by the worker right at the duty free shop in the boarding port  that so long as I put the booze in my carry on bag there would be no problem. they even guaranteed it  100% they said that the cruise line would over look  the booze in the boarding port  cause they were more interested in people bringing in weapons and drugs... Have a great cruise!!!!

  12. carnival does allow wine. bring your own cork opener they will charge to open in. it is easy to smuggle alcohol. if u want to carry it on put it in water bottles. if not put it in ur lugage... im serious they dont check for alcohol just guns and weapons.(beleive it or not the room stewart gave me this tip on my first cruise) make sure to wrap the bottles and put between clothes or towls so they dont break! also on the last night you can buy from the duty free on the ship and take it back in the room. and make sure to bring alchol you can mix with punch or juice. have fun

  13. you can do water bottles i have done it before and it works great!  this was before i was 21

but for the most part drinks are pretty cheap on  cruises

and you can drink a lot for cheap on the islands!

    have fun on your cruise!

  14. Whiskey in Listerine bottles works like a charm.

  15. put them in listrene bottles...works like a charm....!!!!!!! =)

  16. This fascination with smuggling booze on a cruise ship is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.  It is called a DUTY FREE SHOP, I  bought single malt scotch cheaper than I can buy at home (RCI Alaska cruise 2 years ago)..  The selection is not as wide as at a liquor store but a cruise is about relaxing, not trying to "beat the man" for a few pennies, at best.
