How would I grow different mushrooms and fungus?

By this I don't mean "magic mushrooms" but I would like to know how they are grown. I understand psilocybe mushrooms grow quite often on cow dung.

I currently have some wet bread in a bottle dark cupboard.

I am curious about other types of fungus as there isn't really many different fungi that grow on bread.

Know that I only want to know this for study purposes. I left school at 16 but still want to learn so I do it all myself when not at work. If I learn how to grow "Magic Mushrooms" I will not eat them of course, in case of mistaken identity and eating toxins.

I am aware of toadstools growing in pine forests, generaly, and penacilin growing on bread.

This seems like a very fun project and want to see all the different types of fungi there are, and the colors.

If there is a specific way to grow very colorful mushrooms please let me know.

  1. you can grow the new species of mushroom if you mix the mushrooms materrials, for example you mix the bread with another things and leave it until rotten,so the mushrooms will grow and reproduce and get the new species.

  2. Well, after watching farming shows and garden shows, I believe they grow mushrooms (shitake?) by creating a wooden tress stack and wetting it. Then, they cover it up to keep it warm. I believe that is what they do. They also try to decompose it in some way so the fungus grows, it'll be difficult, but I think your project will be great. You can go to google and type in "mushroom growing how-to" and it should show how to grow mushrooms and what you need. Good luck with your botany!

  3. You need very sterile conditions.

You can buy mushroom grow kits (both edible and 'magic' mushrooms)

They can be grown indoor or out. On logs etc. Indoor is a bit different and this is where the sterile bit comes in. you ideally need a bit of kit to do it properly.

Below is a link to a mycologist supply website and another link with a little info on the edible species commonly grown.

    Good look and happy growing

  4. To grow an ordinary fungus and to grow mushrooms ( even though they are also 100 % ffungi !!!) are two quite different things .

First , let us tackle ordinary fungi -

    1) The bottled bread that you have will produce only ordinary fungi Such as bread mold ( Mucor ) , Rhizopus , Aspergillus and Penicillum.

2 ) Now for Mushrooms - It is not easy to grow them for a simple reason that different mushrooms have different requirements  ( Here I am talking about Edible mushrooms only )
