I have a cable box which will be connected to the TV via HDMI, and a PS3 which will also be connected to the TV via HDMI. The question is, how would I get surround sound out of my system from the PS3, and the cable box? The only input on my system is a stereo audio.

  1. GREAT QUESTION!

HDMI to the TV, and analog audio from the PS3 and your Cable box to the audio system (red & white) stereo inputs.

Then you just use the Dolby Pro Logic setting on your A-V receiver!

Alternatively, you could use the Component Video output of your cable box to the Compoent Video input on the TV and use the optical or coaxial digital audio output from the cable box to your A/V receiver - for true Dolby Digital surround sound.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

  2. The stereo audio input will be "read" by your system and transferred into surround sound output.

  3. confusing...but this is how i have it...

first hook the ps3 to the home theater the video part to the tv(not if you are using HDMI)

then hook the cable box via HDMI or DIGITAL OUT to get the best audio ...and the video to the tv..and that's about it...now every time you want to ....watch tv just  press the bottom in which you assign to each device (like tv video 1, ps3 video2 etc.)

  4. You can't get surround sound from TV speakers you will need a reciever and speakers - 5.1 which means 5 speakers and a sub, 6.1 or 7.1.  You would hook up the audio (at least) to the reciever and video to tv or video and audio to reciever then video to tv.

  5. Sounds confusing....but it sounds like you need an AV hookup....they're those boxes you get at bestbuy/target/wherever for like $25 to hook up additional components.  Usually if you walk into Best Buy or another electronics store, explain to them what you need & they can tell you what you need to get

  6. ^Yeah, what he said....papagudo or papgayo.

**and just some good advice, If your TV has an HDMI hook up, you should not need a AV box.   I REPEAT, you should not need an AV Box unless you are willing to sacrifice the Surround Sound.  As oppose to purchasing and/or installing a Surround Sound Receiver with optimum sound capabilities with speakers.  Then you should be able to plug everything into the Surround Sound Receiver and select the channel input accordingly.
