  1. Definitely join the choir when you can. Good singing techniques start with breathing. You want to breathe in like you are breathing through a straw. You want your stomach to go out instead of your shoulders going up. When singing, you want to push your stomach out until you have no more breath and then push your stomach back toward the spine to squeeze out that little bit more air. That's very basic breathing stuff. There's a bit more to it that I can't remember. You want to practice your breathing. The one tip that my choir teacher gave me about singing itself is to shape your mouth like you have an egg upright in there. Sitting up straight is important too, posture will help bring some of the other stuff together.

  2. Start singing now. And if your willing to spend the money, sign up for vocal lessons. That way by next school year, you would have improved enough to ask the choir teacher for an audition into Intermediate Choir or Advanced Choir and skip beginning choir.

  3. I would just start practicing, because if you start using your vocal chords it will make them stronger, and make singing easier, Listen to your favorite music and just sing along, the only way to get better is practice
