Why don't you just go buy a wooden bat for 60$?

The only way to make a wooden bat is to turn it on a lathe and if you don't have the money to go buy a lathe, i suggest the cheaper choice of just buying a bat.

Here's a lathe for about $800 including shipping and turning tools.  Jet is a professional brand, so you may not know it.  I think that Rockler also sells the turning blanks for the bats.  I have dealt with this company for years and can tell you their customer service record is very high.

By hand you could use something called a spoke shave which is a specialized plane, but it's a lot of work and requires a lot of skill.
