How would I simplify this?

Its:

16x^2 plus 8x - 4

OVER (As in there is a line here separating from the next part.)

  1. Well if you are going to just "simplify" then you can ignore the variable and exponents and treat much like a normal fraction. You may even think of it as 3 seperate fractions. 16/4 = 4; 8/4 = 2; 4/4 = 1. Keep everything else the same and that is your simplified answer. 4x^2 + 2x - 1. If you want to "factor" it then that is a different story. The quadratic formula would come into play. Hope that helps.
