Would Krav Maga work in an event with rules or an mma even ( I know mma has rules)?

Is there any reason A krav Maga fighter would not do good in a Uufc fight, If he were fit

I don't think the answer of he can't use his eye gouges or groin shots is very good. So come up with a new one please

  1. same answer as last time. yes krav maga will kick *** on the streets but in mma you square off with your opponent. yes krav teaches strikes and submissions but not the counters to the counter. it doesn't teach angles to the strikes. are you tired of this question yet. an experienced mma fighter will cut angles on the strikes and counter submissions with strikes and position advancements to there own submissions that the krav guy will not know the counter to

  2. As soon as a Krav Mage fighter is forced into a set of rules and given a cage, ring or mat he must stay on his training goes out the window.  Can he strike, levferage, kick yes.  But he is playing into someone else game plan and he is out of his.

In my opinion there is no way to compare a non-sport martial art to one build or confined by rules of sport.  It's simple apples and oranges.  BJJ has much more technique than simply the elements you see on the mat at the World Championships.  It's a street ready self defense system as well as a sport system but when you fight in the sport system you cannot use neck cranks, slams, throws with intent to injure etc...    You can't tap out to save yourself in a street fight... ;-)

Krav Maga, Kung Fu San Soo  and other similar fighting systems were created and taught to assist the average person in a street confrontation.  Survival is key, my life or yours.  This is far different mentality than winning points, knocking or tapping people out.  Competition is dangerous and can cause paralysis or death (and does).  Street fights can cause permanent paralysis, death and life long injuries but there isn't a referee and rules to tell you what's fair or not in a street fight.

Think about this for as moment...  Do you think the average person would fight harder with more intent if their life is truly threatened by a stranger or if they were thrown into a grappling tournament for fun to try to earn a medal for the first time???  Sure on the mat they may give it their best but ultimately once tired, caught in a bad position they will most likely quit, give up or tap out.   On the street, in a real confrontation, when you have no choice and no alternative you must do what it takes to protect your life, your families life and survive a confrontation.  Competitors choose to compete when where and against whom.  You can't choose to be a victim of violence it may simply find you.

When there are no rules, your life or theres, things become very brutal very quickly.  Krav Maga was developed to keep Isreali soldiers safe while on duty and off.  When attacked they defend themselves as brutally as needed to survive.  Life or death situations call for extreme measures.

If placed in a cage, a ring or mat the system must be adapted with the fighters health in mind.  Brutality doesn't play well with American audiences case in point UFC 1-5 vs. current day UFC 88.  Times change, rules evolve the event becomes safer and allows fighters to enjoy longevity in the sport and progress.  They removed toe and finger breaking, head butts etc...  with the fighters safety in mind.

People can say what they will about different fighting systems and no one will ever agree what the best is and why.  You like a certain martial arts system because it fits you as a person mentally and physically, you like the challenge.  Some wish to compete and become world champions others wish to learn every possible way to immobilize an attack and protect their well being.  Either way the participant can enjoy their art and feel confident they know way more than the average untrained attacker does on the street and that can make all the difference whether or not you become a survivor or victim.

    Enjoy your training.

  3. The banned techniques in MMA comprise the rudimentary techniques of Krav.

  4. As a MMA fighter AND Krav Maga instructor maybe I am well placed to answer this one.

The answer is Krav Maga would fare OK.  It's a complete system including striking with hands, elbows, knees, feet and head as well as grappling skills.   The strikes come mainly from Muay Thai and Boxing and the grappling from wrestling and BJJ (We nick all the best stuff).

But the answer about not striking to vulnerable areas is valid.  For self defence training I specifically target eyes, throat, groin and joints.  I also spend hours doing defences againt weapon attacks and multiple opponent drills.  I do this for thousands of repetitions.  These skills are redundant in a MMA fight, but vital for the street.

When I am approching a MMA fight I concentrate more on my grappling and striking skills as preparation, and as these come from Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling and BJJ this is what I am training in even if it is a so-called Krav Maga class.  It does not make any sense to train in pistol disarms for MMA fight!

Because MMA fights have rules the best training is always going to be sports orientated training, a mixture of BJJ and Muay Thai seems to be the perfect  blend.  Therefore KM is not perfect but if you knock it about a bit it fits into shape.

By the way both Bas Rutten and Oleg Taktarov are trained highly in Krav Maga so it obviously works for some MMA fighters!

  5. Well that was gonna be my answer. Krav Maga attacks the vulnerable poitns as well as other strikes and joint manipulations. I think if they knew only pure krav maga than whoever was fightinh them would exploit their lack of BJJ knowledge and go for the shoot. Ans sicne in Krav Maga you would kick in the head and try to kick them off of you and pull ytheir hair and do whatever you can to get them off , they would probbaly get tied up and submitted. If they kept it satndup It could be anybodies match as Krav Magist are trained in standup. Than it would be whoever is the better striker. But most importantyl , who the h**l cares. Peace and love.Holding babies and happy love. Luv luv luv.

  6. yah a krav maga user could fend himself off if he is fit and well trained, krav maga includes elbows, jabs, kicks, its a whole system however you would be so limited to use everything you have learned because it would be illegal, its not a sport ..so your answer is yes krav maga could fend itself in an mma or ufc match but it wouldn't be a very good idea because you would be limited.
