Question:

How would Trumpet or Cross Vine do on a 6' x 4' brick mailbox?

I am thinking of having a vine grow on our brick mail box (which is in an area of full sun) but I would like one that would climb by rootlets and not need a lattice.

How would this do if I didnt mind the vine looking a bit overgrown?

why and how so?

or if there is another you recommend , I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your answers!

  1. For something that is an evergreen climber, there are a large variety of variegated ivies which would be suitable, only needing to be trimmed when getting too rampant. Sulphur Heart may  satisfy, but the best way is to go and look at lots of plants in a garden centre, or even better to get an idea from on-line catalogues.

  2. The trumpet will grow most anywhere and the flowers are always beautiful in the summer. You'll have to trim it to keep it from obstructing the mailbox entry, however that;s true with most any vine you grow. Vines always tend to become a "bit overgrown" if not trimmed.
