How would a 2008 Honda 250 nighthawk handle with a passenger?

I know its only 250cc but this would be my first bike and its cheap and reliable. I wouldn't be looking to go to far maybe just take my girlfriend for a ride once and a while. Together we weigh about 250lbs.

Any alternative bike suggestions are more than welcome.

Thanks in advance

  1. Slow, look at sometrhing larger if your committed to riding dual often.

  2. JEEZZZ... its hard..   so many people with advice & no idea..

250cc bike...  two up..  will lose about 10 MPH of the top speed..  so if the bike goes 90 MPH solo..  it will still do 80 MPH with the girl freind on the back..(fast enough to get you where you want to go)...

handling of the bike is more dependant on how good the pillion is on the bike..  If she leans the same amount as you do & in the same direction then after awhile you will forget shes even there...

its true that on  bigger bikes any extra weight is less apparent..

but thats because the weight of the bike is more & you may have extra power..

I rode an SR250 Yamaha..(single cylinder)  with the wife on the back & towed a trailer with camping gear as well..  just meant I had to use the gearbox more to keep the motor spinning along...

So keep your cheap reliable nighthawk..  & enjoy..

  3. A 250 with two people is asking for trouble.  Don't go far, or on any fast highways!

  4. Yes, it is cheap and reliable. But the Kawasaki is CHEAPER and has better brakes and a larger gas tank. And for a passenger, you need to consider that the Kawasaki can handle the extra weight better than the Night Hawk.

For gosh sake, at least get the Honda REBEL!

  5. You might want to look for a new 2007 750 some where. They are trying to get rid of them you might be able to get it down within a few hundred dollars of the 250. I just got a new 1100 for cheaper than the 750.

  6. no problems doubling with that weight it will slow it down alot ,but i will say the bigger the bike the easier it is to pillion.
