so yesterday i applied touch up paint to some scratches on my silver scion tc. since some spots were messy and globby i wanted to remove the touch up paint so i could reapply it. well today i bough dupli-color paint stripper at a store and put some on a spot on the front bumper. well it totally took off the touch up paint and the original car paint! so now theres this medium sized black spot on the front bumper with no paint. now on monday im gona take the car to an auto shop and have them fix the spot along with some other stuff. how exactly would they fix the black spot? what would they do and how much would it cost?

  1. most probably, they will make grinding  and resurfacing  job to restore its original smoothness. It will not costly much, but you have to talk to the technician or the supervisor to determine how they gonna do it and how much it cost, that could be acceptable to you.

  2. They would probably start by making sure that the prime is still ok. If not then they will take it all the way down to bare metal and then reapply primer. After that they will mask off the area and start to apply the paint. The cost is going to depend on how many layers of paint they put on and how many coats of clear coat they put on. The more that they put on the higher the cost. A better paint place will put more coats or paint and clear coat on so that it will last longer.

  3. first off they will have to remove the bumper and sand the area that you damaged with the paint stripper, if there is other areas that you want fixed also they may have to remove some exterior trim to properly repair and paint. If its just some paint related issues and no bodywork has to be done then plan on spending about a $1000 to $1500. The black spot that you are seeing is the rubber compound that the bumper is made of, don't mess with it because it can become very soft and tear

  4. I would just buy some flat green, brown, and black paint and spray a camo paint job on it and save some money. Plus, you would probably have the only camo paint Scion TC in the US. If you do, I'll put a picture of it on my website.
