If a student from school were to go up to the teacher and say "Hi miss" or "Hi mr." When the teacher doesn't know the student

    perhaps a bit startled but they'd return the recognizition

  3. For the sake of not being rude say hi back....although that would be a bit awkward that some random person is saying hi.

  4. If the student is simply greeting the teacher and saying hello, I don't see any disrespect or any problem. If, however, the student is interested in the teacher or has other intentions, then I would avoid the situation entirely.

  5. It happens to me all the time between classes in the corridor or on the stairs. I teach ESL in a French school. I have no idea why the students greet me. I smile and return the greeting. It's the polite thing to do. one human being to another.

  6. Happened to me quite a bit this school year! Just smile and greet them. I found that sometimes they just want to see IF you'll react.
