  1. As a Poli Sci major for my undergrad, I can say that the subject matter is ultimately risky and unrewarding for the average person.  I would recommend the degree only if you are very driven, actually plan to do government work, or run for office.  If you intend to work in the private sector, then do Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or some sort of Management degree.

Poli Sci graduates tend to start off at the lower end of the pay spectrum, but over time it picks up.  If you can get a job for a government agency, you'll start off making $30,000 tops, but if you work up to management or analytic positions, you'll be in the six-figure range.

With business, you'll probably start in the $35-40K range and work your way up too, for more money, but expect longer hours and possibly more stress with a straight management role.

People like poli sci because it has the management/operations aspect of business with the research/analytic aspect of sociology, meaning a thinking vs. action sort of job, which to most means less stress.

If you go for Political Science, definitely go after a Master's or Doctoral degree.  An MPA is quite versatile and useful (I have one), or you can do an MBA or MPP (business admin and public policy), but you'd be better off with a BBA if you're going for the MBA.

As for the minor: useless.  Minors are completely worthless UNLESS they are specific and related to the field, like a major in Sociology with a minor in Drug Counseling or s*x Therapy.  Or Theater with a minor in Music.
