Well, tomorrow I'm have my science final exam. My teacher gave me a study guide. It asked me how to make a nail magnetic and I should be able to explain what is happening within the nail.

So the basic questions are how to make a nail magnetic? And what is happening in the nail?

  1. Here you go..Try this

  2. If you do not get the proper answer and get stuck, tell her she did not give you appropriate data for your experiment or hypothesis. Nails come in many forms; ferrous metals, iron, steel, aluminum, titanium the list goes on and on. If she said iron nail specifically, you need to study something called magnetism and polarity.

    good luck

  3. u use a battery and a wire to attach it to the nail and the  plus side of the battery, it creates a current and gives it to the nail

  4. wrap a copper wire around the nail (make sure there is space between each coil) then attach one end of the copper wire to the possitive end of a AA battery, and the other end of the wire to the negative end of the AA battery. This creates an electromagnet.

The electric current from the battery excites the atoms in the nail causeing it to attract other metals.

  5. If the nail is made up of iron,

Simply Rub the nail with a permanent magnet.

If the nail is made up of Steel,

take some insulated wire-the kind we use at home and wrap it around the nail like a coil.Connect the ends of the wire to a say 1.5 volt pencil battery leave it like that for some time. The nail will eventually become a permanent magnet

    Here's the explanation

1.Whne the nail is rubbed with the magnet the electrons in it arrange themselves in a particular direction imaparting the nail magnetic properties

2.When current is passed around the steel nail the electrons arrange themselves according to the direction of flow of current at its ends-Clockwise stands for south pole and anticlockwise stands for north pole.Hence the nail gets magnetised

  6. put the nail next to a regular magnet.  it will become magnetic by attracting electrons from the magnet.

  7. Hook a 9 volt battery to the nail using wires and those mini jumper cables. All you need is electricity.  You could also use a stripped wire.  Something about electrons or something, I wasn't paying attentiog when we did it, I was too busy picking up paper clips with it off the floor.
