  1. USMCNBS,

Officers do not go into the field as snipers.

Snipers are corporals (E4) to Gunnys (E7).

An officer would be leader of a platoon or battalion which may have snipers in it.

    "Ranger"

  2. Requirements:

    Male, volunteer

    0300-Infantry MOS.

    E2 - E7(No officers).

    expert rifleman.Minimum Requirements:

having a second class or higher swim qualification.

a first-class score on their Physical Fitness Test (PFT).

    eye sight correctable to 20/20.

    not colour blind.

    no office hours.

    Non-Judicial Punishments within 6 months.

qualify for a secret security clearance.

and posses a GT score of 110 or higher.

    For a perfect score:

3 mile run in 18 minutes, 20 deadhang pull-ups(No Swinging)

    100 sit-up/crunchs under two minutes.

500 meter swim using side or breast stroke.

50 meter swim holding a weight out of water, tread water for 30 seconds holding a weight out of water, no signs of panic.

    Or:

Two of the better ways of becoming a Scout/Sniper are through a Recon unit or an Infantry Battalion.

First join the Marine Corps with an Infantry MOS. While in Boot Camp you will need to shoot Expert on the rifle range, become at least a second class swimmer and score a high first class PFT.

Upon completion of Infantry training you will be given the opportunity to volunteer for Recon or Force Recon.

If you successfully complete their indoc you will be sent to a Recon unit where you will first qualify as a Recon Marine then given the opportunity to volunteer for Scout/Sniper School.

BN Recon and Force Recon have school seats assigned to them for every S/S School.

    Lastly:

The other way is to be sent to an Infantry Battalion and then volunteer for the Scout/Sniper Platoon.

The S/S Plt runs indocs annually and pulls in personnel from the BN.

Each Sniper unit runs its own version of the indoc but they are all extremely difficult. Once in the unit you will go through all the training to become a sniper before ever going to S/S School.

Once at the school you will be expected to have all the basic knowledge of a Scout/Sniper and the advanced knowledge of an infantry Marine.

You will show up with everything that you will need to make it through the school including your ghillie suit.

There are no second chances at the school and drops are a daily occurrence.

Marine Snipers are generally regarded as the best snipers in the world.

  3. Well you can go to OCS and try to become a sniper but the easier way is to go through recruit training with a perfect physical score (300) and shoot expert and the Qualification. Then you'll be offered an option to go to sniper school. 95% of everyone that get sent there FAIL. Marine snipers are the best in the world. You march longer and harder than the rest, you become an expert in field operation, judging distance (if you can't do that you fail the first day) ,navigation using maps and compasses, marksmen ship, and wilderness survival. If I where you I'd become a Marine Corps grunt. Best job in the world.

  4. well

first your gonna need a commission. By way of the US Naval Academy, or ROTC or OCS

Next, youll have to do your Advanced Infantry School.

Serve combat time and get command experience.

And then go to more than likely SMTC (special Missions Training Center) or a USMC Sniper School

    Get your qualification

and then be assigned to a new platoon or old one or be assigned to a US Marine Force Recon if you qualed for that.

    hope that helps

  5. No,  USMC officers are not snipers..Yes they lead sniper units but they are not snipers themselves..

To answer your question..You cant be a sniper if your an officer..Dont try to find a loophole..Just choose a job you are allowed to have.

You can read here about what it means and takes to become a Marine.

  6. Enlist an as Infantryman, get operational experience, combat, apply to sniper school, Go OCS then you are a sniper qualified officer!

  7. an officer can be a sniper, someone has to lead them. When go to train for officer pick sniper combat as your MOS and they will train you to lead Marines and be a sniper.

  8. You can do that?

  9. Marine STA (survailence, traget acquisition) platoons are lead by infantry or intel officers.  Officers CAN be sent to scout sniper school in one of the MarDivs, but they won't be out pulling triggers.  If you want to be a Marine Scout Sniper you'll have to enlist as an infantryman and then proove yourself through your field skills, are recommended by your command, they are willing to release you to STA, and IF you pass the indoc, you'll become part of the platoon.  After that it's up to them if you stay and are eventually sent to Scout Sniper school or if you are sent back to your company.  When I was in I had a friend get sent after he was evaluated over a 4 month period.  Even then there is no guarentee that you'll complete the course, many don't pass.

  10. Officers are not snipers. E-3 or 4 to E-7.
