I think it's a mistake to assume that flat tax rates would be a simplification of the tax code.  Tax rates are about the simplest aspects of the whole code.  True, the flat tax would also eliminate certain deductions that have the effect of leveling tax rate disparities created by a progressive rate schedule.  But the complexity of the tax code is not a product of variable rates or even deductions; mainly, it results from the many ways people try to avoid having taxable income of any sort in the first place.  All of those problems would not go away with a flat tax, regardless of its other consequences.

  3. flat tax would lower taxes for rich,  make the poor pay some tax  (they pay none now)  and the middle class would pay a lot more.

    Right now  the people in the bottom 50% pay NO tax.

    Those in the top 10% of income pay 75% of the taxes.

    The flat tax is a scam.
