How would a standard system of weights and measures??

If there were one standard system of weights and measures that was used world-wide then we would not have to worry about things be so complicated when we have to convert measurements, instead we would all be using the exact same system.

Coming from an engineer, if we all, mainly USA, would use the same system, we would be able to all work worldwide without worry about conversions and parts.  For example, one company began a project in which many countries were involved and the US engineers were using the US standard and the other countries were building in metric, so nothing match up when it came time to put the project together.
