How would an anthropologist view perfectionism?

  1. They're not suppose to judge but observe. As an example, the religion of one person causes that person to be bias against other religions. An anthropologist is suppose to set aside personal bias in order to record an accurate picture of what is being studied. Since they are taught to think this way you should have a hard time getting them to commit to a judgement call.  Yet on this site I have seen some judge very quickly and/or push their beliefs, so I may be wrong.

It could be viewed as a form of ritualism but perfectionism is really a psychological classification.  Unless it is viewed in a broader context (e.g. preformed by larger portion of the population for sociocultural reasons rather than a few select individuals in which the perfectionistic actions are self based) perfectionism warrants very little substance for anthropological study.

  4. an interesting view would be to look at perfectionism as an adaptive trait...
