  1. First, get a job with a 6-figure salary. Then, take some time off and learn to fly. You can then keep your job and fly as a hobby.

  2. Get lucky. Many of those salaries are on the way out. Has to happen.

  3. I make six figures as an airline pilot!  Oh, you didn't mean decimal places.

The days of $200k plus captains are ending.  Never mind that you need to fly as a captain for nearly 20 years at most carriers to make that kind of money, if the scale even goes that high.

Oh, and that's after 15 years of not making anywhere near that kind of money, especially when starting out.  Some airline pilots our there are lucky to make $21/hour starting out.  You can only fly 1000 hours a year, so do the math.

  4. Why would you want to?

I look at it this way: objectively.  If I was going to go make six figures I would have to go into the regionals making $20,000/yr before I topped out at $50,000/yr about five years later.  Then go join an airline and start as an F/O at $30,000 and work your *** off for years until you come to the holy grail of airline captain making your said six figures.

But what is my goal in the end, just to make six figures?  After enduring years of long days, nights away from home, layovers, technical diversions, bad weather, and little pay?  With the chance of a merger or bankruptcy meaning I have to start as a low payed F/O at the next airline behind the F/O that got hired yesterday?  s***w that!

I'm making a medium five figures where I work, I'm home every day, I only fly 300hrs a year, and I live where all the six figure people try to get away from it all for a week or two-all year long.

I've got a friend who just upgraded from a cruise pilot to an F/O for Air Canada after 20 years of flying and building hours.  He wishes he had my job even though he will (hopefully) be making much more than I will before retirement.

  5. Buy a time machine and go back to the past.

The days of fat-walleted, swaggering pilots are over.

The airline industry isn't as awesome as it used to be. You could try international or FedEx. But you are going to have to train your butt off and work for meager wages (for YEARS and years) while you build up enough turbine hours to appeal to any major airline for any sort of premium flight legs.

If the airline industry continues down the path it is on now, by the time you have gained all of that training/experience, there will be on carrier left.

  6. If you figure it out let me know.

  7. The constant references to the airlines as the only frame of reference on YA Aircraft is myopic. There are many $100k + plus jobs in non-airline jet equipment. I came across several this week alone and know of many more. That's all I'm going to post about that for now. If you really want in, you should research the **** out of the industry.

  8. work for southwest.  after 4 years in their... you get $125 dollars per hour over 1000 hours max. is $125,000.  captain max pay is 200 per hour tooping at $200,000 per year

  9. Start with a job makng 4 figures

  10. You cant if your too lazy to do the research yourself... Seriously though its hard work, requiring you to work for almost minimum wage for 5 years

  11. A newly hired pilot starting out right now is not likely ever to reach that level in a professional flying career.  The airlines are retiring all the ancient pelicans that can make that kind of money, and the business is fading into history so that new pilots will probably be redirected before reaching that level.

If what you are interested in about a career is money, flying is not a good choice of careers to plan on.  Go into investment banking, engineering, accounting, law, or politics.  You will end up being the one who tells pilots where to go and when to get there.

  12. SENIORITY

  13. First way is to fly international flight.... This means larger planes with more responsibility so more pay!!! However you have to work your way up there. Another way is to stay with a major airline for a lot of years and your pay will increase to above 100,000..... If your interested what pilots are making right now by airlines look at this website

    http://airlinepilotcentral.com/airlines....

they have up to date info on pays for many carriers, regional to legacy carriers.!!!!!

  14. US Air pays better even than Southwest. They pay $200 per hour after about 1 - 1.5 yrs of work. Over 1250 hrs max.

  15. gain 1000 hrs of twin jet experience then 3-5 years with a major carrier.  Round numbers, but that'll do it.
