Not for broadway or professional...

because i know that is when they pick the people

they like to come back.

But in community theater isn't it just the people

that they want to see more of.

Or didn't see what they wanted with.

If anyone is a casting director

or actor maybe?.

help?

  1. Two ways:

    1) The play itself will clearly describe the character "mid-30's, tall, slim and elegant, constantly smoking a cigar" - that kind of rather precise one that a short, fat non-smoking teenager should avoid.

    2) The casting director/director/producer will have visualised how THEY see the character and generally make their idea known in the casting call: female, 30-40, tall and thin, able to do accents/ride unicycle" - study what they want and don't waste their time, and yours if you are far from the image.

  2. All casting is first by look, second by ability and third by experience and reputation.  Call backs give directors a chance to make sure of their choices.
