  1. Step #1.  Join the Marine Corps, not the Army.

Step #2  Strive to be the best Marine you can, because only the top 10% of Noncommissioned Officers (NCOs) are considered for the Drill Instructor Schools, and only the very best of them are admitted to the schools.

Step #3  Make your ambitions known to your Chain of Command.

Note: as a former JROTC Rifle Team Coach, and as a USMC Veteran Noncom. I can tell you that you have to take this one step at a time.  Your marksmanship will help your quarterly Fitness Report, but you need to become a Marine first, then a PROVEN leader of Marines (usually through combat experience).  Only when you have proven yourself will any command trust you with the privilege to lead Marines.  Start proving yourself now and then remember that EVERY day of your life is a test, not a rehearsal.

IF you have what it takes, and 90% do not, you MIGHT earn the title of "United States Marine"   not before.  After you pass the Crucible, then you start earning your place in the Corps.  Most Drill Instructors were recommended for the drill field by their Commanding Officers without their prior knowledge.

And remember, IF you earn the title, you will wear it all your life.

"Once a Marine, Always a Marine."

  2. You won't be a DI in the Corps if you join the Army.

  3. Ok. You cant be an instructor training future Marines if your in the Army. Join the Core

  4. Join first then see if you like it, it's not JROTC at your HS
