  1. I applaud your efforts in finding out more about a field you are interested in!  A good place to start is to work part time or volunteer in a preschool or Head Start program occasionally.  Also, talk to your high school counselor who should have information and be able to guide you in colleges to choose, grants and loans to help pay for costs, etc.  If you are looking for good pay, you may want to think about a related profession.  The pay is not great in most early childhood areas, but the rewards can be!  You might also consider majoring in Elementary Education which will provide a little better pay.  You might take some early childhood classes or special education classes that might help you to get a job as a Kindergarten teacher or as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher.  You will want to also contact colleges that you might be interested in attending.  They have a lot of info. and will be glad to help guide you!

  2. I am taking ECE classes in college to get my group leader qualification which would allow me to teach preschool. Ece is early childhood. I went to community college it was about $1200-$1500 per semester they offer payment plans and you can get grants to help out.

  3. One option might be to visit a preschool and ask what they require as far as education. I don't think preschool teachers make a whole lot, but early childhood education is a wonderful profession. You could look into eventually opening your own preschool, and then you would probably make more money and be able to set your hours.

You might also want to look into the different types of preschools out there to see what fits with your beliefs. For example, there are Waldorf inspired preschools and play-oriented preschools...which I think allows for the magic of childhood and I think would be a very fun and creative place to be as an educator. Then you also have kindergarten readiness preschools which "ready" children for school work.

I think that most of your schooling can be done at a community college, but you might need or want a 4 year degree from a University. Don't be discouraged by the cost of school. You can always get grants (free money) and loans (money you eventually have to pay back). You are investing in your life and future!

Don't worry too much about what classes you should take in high school. When you get into college, you will get on the right path and take the certain courses that you will need to in order to get the degree that you want in order to be a preschool teacher.

Good luck and have fun! Children are wonderful!!!
