  1. right a well thought out letter 2 the school bord and go from there lol  ur very young for politics but go for it!

  2. You're probably right!  A lot of schools don't offer healthy choices for lunch foods.   Our schools have added some good salads, but are still serving some nasty hot meals as well.

You might want to appear at a meeting of the school board.  They usually have a period of time blocked off in which parents and/or students can present various issues to the board.

  3. You can talk to the principal about it

  4. As to talk with the lunch room manager (someone in the lunch room should be able to tell you who that is).  Start with the principal or vice principal.  Then call your local school board.  Then call your local newspaper and/or TV stations.

AND BRAVO TO YOU FOR BEING CONCERNED!!!

  5. Start with your counselor and work up from there.

  6. I bet my kids' school has unhealthier lunches than yours!  The trash they serve...it really doesn't matter since most of it ends up in the trash anyway.  No one makes the kids at school even try their food.

Lunch menus are usually overseen by the school district.  I have asked our school district to provide Nutritional Information about their meals.  They looked at me like I was was an alien.   But, that really is the place to start.

During the recent run up to state elections, someone running for a fairly important office was actually in my neighborhood going door to door to introduce himself.  Decent school lunches was what I recommended to him as in important issue.  He said that he used to send PB&J for his kids.  I told him it was disgraceful that the USA cannot provide better food for its future voters.  He agreed.  I told him to put his money where his mouth was.  We'll see.

  7. Talk to the principal.

Unless the school is a private school, lunches are usually set in accordance with school board policy.  If you approach the school board by yourself, and they actually listen, nothing will most likely happen.  But if you come with backup, then something may be done.

A school is made up of teachers who care for your children as if they were their own.  The teachers report to the principal who also cares deeply for each and every child in the school (and quite often knows everyone's names).  The principal reports to the Superintendant who with the school board try desperately to distribute the meager funds we the taxpayers give them in order to best run the school.

When you speak to the principal, your complaints will not fall on deaf ears, the principal may share your concerns, they may have been approached before.  They will know the best way to go about changing the system.  (as they do have to go to the school board quite often to try to squeeze another dollar out for such trivials as toilet paper, or school books)

Most likely your state also has school lunch guidelines.  If they are not being met, you have a good case against your lunch program.  If the guidelines are not good, they are after all guidelines and one can always do better, but you may have a bigger battle on your hands.

    Good Luck.

  8. If you have problems about anything going on in your school you should be going to the school board meetings and opening your mouth.

  9. Some schools actually have a committee that's charged with overseeing things like whether you have healthy lunches.  That would be the best place to start.  If not, some school districts have a single person who serves that role (check out your school's website or call the district office and ask who's in charge of things like that)

Failing either of those, or if those people aren't receptive, try the PTA.  If you get enough parents raising questions, it's likely you might be able to make a change.
