I have lately been inspired to at some point, possibly the next 2-3 years to cycle a round trip of the UK, including Wales and Scotland.

If i was to do it for a charity event or be sponsored how would i go about getting this together?

What type of training should I do to lead up to it (between now and then) and roughly how many miles would a round trip of the England, Wales and Scotland, (estimated starting and finishing London) take?

Thankyou. 10 points to the best, and most detailed answer :)

Well I guess Mark would be the best source of info and advice - and a really nice guy too!

  2. The main difference between the UK and out country is you have to ride on the LEFT side of the street!

Other than that, it's pretty much the same there as it is here.

  3. Find your nearest local cycling club. There are many different types such as track , road and off road clubs. They may be able to help you with certain aspects of training and advice on what to do.You may also want to ask any other serious cyclists on matters about diet and fitness to maintain the high standards you will require to do such a task. Find out as much information you can from cycling magazines as there could be invaluable advice and techniques in many different forums.  You may even find other cyclists who may be doing the same thing or others who will want to join you.I hope you find what you are looking for and i wish you all the success in doing something that is a very good venture. and good luck..

  4. Forget it mate you are talking about parts of the country with plenty of hills, id you want to go by bike make sure it has engine get a motor scooter or a motor bike

  5. 1) Try not to hold up traffic.

    2) Exercise like if you can afford it buy one of those bike machines & try to get to the top level & stay at it consistently for 30 mins.

    3) Drink lots of water. I know there's no sun in England but you can still get dehydrated

    4) Have nice lunches like that British guy at my mom's job with pineapple & oranges & strawberries. All healthy.
