  1. Try joining the R A F first! If you want to be a Rock Ape Good Luck!  Do your first 6 weeks square bashing like the rest do, and good luck with that, Fraid I can't sugest the branch of the R A F I was in as it is no more.  So go see your local CiO and take it from there.

  2. Judging by your other question your main goal is to join the SAS. your best bet is to join the Infantry, preferably Para Regt as they are the next closest to the SAS and will stand you in good stead for SAS selection.

If you want to pose around an air base in combats scaring nerdy aircraftsmen then by all means become a rock ape.

Raf Regt can join the SAS but you'd have to leave the RAF and then join the army, an admin nightmare but wothwhile if you're successful. If I were you I'd set my sights on just getting in and take it from there

  3. You have to complete basics first as 2 Squadron requires further specialised training. You can put it as your first choice on the "dream list" or apply for transfer after six months if posted to another Squadron.

Regiment training takes place at Honington. It's totally seperate from other RAF training, they do six weeks basics, the Regiment basics is 26 weeks. You'll pass out as an LAC not AC as other branches do.

RAF Regiment do serve in the SAS, contrary to what many believe.

  4. you would be assigned to which ever wing that you would be suited to. if you then put your preference and requirments forward you might be concidered a placement.
