How would i go about telling if a horse is on the wrong lead or not?

  1. If you don't know, you want to look down and see if the lead leg (which is the leg towards the wall, or fence) is going foward farther than the other. Once you get used to it, you'll start to just feel when it's right or wrong.


  2. The best way is on a curve. If he/she's on the wrong lead, the gait in a canter/lope will be very rough. You can also look down at the angle of the shoulder, the lead shoulder should be angled to the front.

  3. when your cantering lean forward slightly and look down , you will see the hoof of the lead leg.  once you get used to getting the lead leg all the time you will be albe to feel it.

  4. When cantering a horse and trying to see if it is on the correct lead or not you look at the sholder on the inside(away from the wall or fence) the is the leg that should be going forward. at the trot to get the correct diagnal then you rise and fall with the leg on the wall. in the link that is below that horse is on the left lead. if that helps at all
